Wired Internet is available in some of the residence halls which can be identified by an ethernet port on the wall. In addition, the rooms that are equipped with an Extreme access point on the wall near a desk should have an ethernet port available on the bottom of the access point. You can connect your legacy devices, smart devices or other tech that does not support WPA-Enterprise authentication.

Jones College, like many other colleges and universities across the U.S., uses the WPA2-Enterprise wireless security. For any device to be able to connect using WPA2-Enterprise, it must have 802.1x-compatible wireless hardware that is Wi-Fi Certified, and it must run an operating system that is WPA2-Enterprise Certified. This means the hardware is certified as inter-operable with other manufacturers' wireless equipment, and the operating system supports the WPA2-Enterprise standard for wireless security.

Below is a list of commonly used devices that typically DO NOT support the WPA2-Enterprise network security. In In order to use these devices, you must connect these devices to the JC_Dorm_Students_IoT wireless network or use a wired connection if available.

Below is an example of the password format:

  • Type IoT, followed by your student ID
  • For example - i o t 0 1 2 3 4 5 6
  • Note: Be sure to include the zero on your student ID
  • There will be a limit for a max of 3 devices per student for this network

This is not a complete list of devices that should use the IoT wireless network and is used only as an example:
